This 1972 Datsun 240Z is available on eBay out of Campbell, California. The car is a “rebirth” model, purchased by Nissan and restored, and then sold by franchised Nissan dealerships in 1998. It is impressively set up with tasteful modifications, which are visually subtle but mechanically worthwhile. The car has a great look, with headlight covers (which would have originally been illegal in the United States), front and rear spoilers, lowered ride height by Ground Control suspension, and 15″ Panasport minilight replica wheels, which are allusions to the extremely rare and desirable JDM performance models such as the 240ZG and Z432. The bumpers have neither rubber trim nor over riders, which adds to the clean aesthetic.
The body and paint look extremely nice, while the exhaust is fairly subtle considering how trick it looks from underneath the car. The clean aesthetic is only slightly hampered by the presence of side markers and antenna. The rear panel is correctly finished in dark gray.
The interior is largely stock and extremely clean. The Nardi wood-rimmed steering wheel is a classic touch that lightens the feel up.
The car is most impressive on the mechanical level. The spec list is very exciting, as are the triple Mikuni carbs. The engine compartment is impressively clean, as is the underside, and the tubular headers are very groovy. The entire package has been dealt with, and done well, including engine, driveline, brakes, suspension, and aesthetics. Like a lot of cars from this period, these early Z cars have an appeal and simplicity that makes them the most attractive and evocative to modern eyes. The level of preparation and thoroughness of this car make it extremely unique, which is why it has already attracted significant bidding.
