Sighted on Ebay: RSR IROC Replica

placeholder_blog_image

Here’s an interesting and well-done find from EBay. Visually it reads as an IROC car, right down to the cool period decals (though I couldn’t help but notice that the TAG Heuer decal should be a Heuer one since it didn’t become TAG Heuer until 1984), and early whale tail, but it’s a Turbo. The car is built on a very early Turbo (1976), which is a bit of a pity since those cars are rare, nice unmolested ones are hard to find, and they will probably be worth good money some day.

The car also sits on what look like wide 15″ fuchs, which are extremely difficult to find (and therefore extremely expensive), particularly the rears. No comment from the seller on where these came from or if they are original.

The quality of the build is impressive throughout, and it really looks like the car was done right. The groovy vintage Recaros are a different touch, and the roll bar looks smart in its color matched orange. The Momo Prototipo is now more or less standard issue for this type of car and looks nice, while the early style lightweight door panels are sweet, though a bit strange with electric windows.

The seller mentions that the engine is mated to a 915 gearbox, which is a curious choice since Porsche held off on a 5-speed version of the Turbo for a long time because of fears that the 915 was not strong enough to handle the power and torque from the turbocharged engine.

This car has very impressive attention to detail and quality throughout. Cars built in the R Gruppe spirit are usually long hood narrow bodies, so this is an interesting alternative that might still get head nods from that crowd.

I’ve seen this in real life, and it is WAY more impressive than in these photos.
