Event Report: Start of the 2009 California Mille

The 2009 California Mille begins tomorrow, and today was the traditional display of participating cars in front of San Francisco’s Fairmont Hotel. This year’s route begins by proceeding southwards towards Mount Hamilton, and on to Carmel, Cambria, then back up to Sacramento and eventually Sonoma county. There was a wide variety of interesting cars on hand, including the participating cars, and several Palo Alto Concours d’Elegance vehicles as well.

Another new event at Monterey…from those nut jobs who came up with the 24 hours of lemons!

Great, another new event at Monterey. But wait! It’s from the same folks who brought you The 24 Hours of LeMons, a riotous endurance race for $500 cars. The Concours d’LeMons is another tongue in cheek (and it’s a very cheeky cheek) jab at the more high end events, and is a concours intended for the really bad cars that have been made over the years. You know, the Pacer and Citroen Ami etc. The site is a riot and is well worth checking out. My favorite award is for the Soviet class, the “Vladimir Ilyich Lenin Medal for Most Glorious Achievement in Transportative Advancement for Use Upon Billiard-Smooth Highways as Are Uniformly to Be Found Inside Workers’ Paradise”.
Event Report: Targa California

From the 25th to the 27th of March, TME participated in the first running of the Targa California, “disorganized” by Dave Bouzaglou of TRE Motorsports. It was a sizable no-cost event in the tradition of the now defunct Iron Bottom No Frills Motoring Tour with great turnout in the form of a variety of interesting cars. There was, of course, heavy emphasis on Porsches.
