1999 Ferrari 550 Maranello
This is a lovely low-mileage 2-owner California Maranello. It is well optioned and very complete with special order interior, concealed radar, all recalls performed, books, tools, and Ferrari cover.
This car is currently in Lafayette, CA.
the model
Introduced as the flagship of the Ferrari line in 1996, the Maranello replaced a long line of mid-engined cars that began with the Berlinetta Boxer and was continued by the Testarossa. Meant to recapture the glory days of Ferrari`s legendary front-engined sports cars (most notably the 275GTB and 365GTB/4 Daytona), the Maranello is an indisputably beautiful car. The Pininfarina styling is masculine and muscular without being overstated or macho and the proportions are spot-on. Motivated by a 485hp iteration of Ferrari`s V-12 that transmits power through a 6-speed manual transaxle, the car is both fast and balanced.
history
This particular car is essentially a two-owner California car that was sold new in Northern California, where it remains today. The first owner sold the car to its current owner in 2006, when the car had 6,100 miles. The car is nicely equipped and optioned with red-painted brake calipers, a Sony 6-disc CD changer, concealed radar detector, and special order interior with tan upper dashboard, tan steering wheel, red seat belts, red carpets, and quilted headliner. The car also has its original Ferrari cover, and full tools, books, and spare in a can. The car has had all recalls performed, including the ECU and the replacement of the wheels. The car has a major 30k service including belts in 2005, about 6000 miles ago. Since then, the car has been regularly maintained and has just had new Bridgestone S-02 tires fitted.
Condition
The car is in excellent overall condition, as would be expected given its low mileage and enthusiastic ownership. The paintwork and body are excellent throughout, with light road rash only to the front, and one area of damage to the left side of the front spoiler. The wheels are free from curbing, and the car has never had any accidents. The glass and lights are excellent, as is the trim.
The interior is very nice overall. Leather covers almost every surface, and is excellent on the whole, though the passenger airbag cover displays some wrinkling, and there is some wear on the driver’s seat ingress/egress area. The contrasting carpet and seatbelts are striking, and the carpet is in great shape. The tan dashboard and steering wheel as well as the quilted headliner set this Maranello apart from others . The dashboard is excellent, with no shrinkage or warping in evidence. The instruments and switches are excellent as well, with only a few small areas of light wear in evidence. The interior is on the whole as would be expected of a properly-stored ten year old car with low mileage.
The trunk is like new, and the engine is extremely clean and stock throughout. The trunk is fully equipped with spare repair kit, CD changer, tool set, and Ferrari cover.
This is an excellent opportunity to acquire an attractive and usable example of this model in quintessential Ferrari colors. Incorporating all of the things that have made traditional Ferraris great, the Maranello has the potential to become a classic. This car is well-equipped, has known ownership from new, and with approximately $150,000 of depreciation out of the way, this car also makes a much more sensible buy than a newer Ferrari.
