Video: Terrific Porsche 917K Driving at Brands Hatch in the Rain

This vintage footage is from the BOAC 1000km race at Brands Hatch in April of 1970. It incorporates an interview with Pedro Rodriguez and some very cool footage of him handling a 600hp car with no electronic aids in the rain. He is an extremely impressive driver.

For Sale: Timewarp 25k mile ’73 911S

This 1973 Porsche 911S is a marvelous find with under 25,000 miles from new. While early 911’s of all types were $20,000 cars in 2000, the secret is out these days. While not the most tractable, the 911S is now worth serious money, with the best examples tickling the $100,000 mark. This car would certainly qualify as a best example, being an extremely low mileage unrestored last of the line 2.4 liter car. The seller reports that it is extremely complete and looks very nice in the pictures. (more…)
For Sale: Jaw Dropping No Expense Spared Build on Mercedes 500E

This Mercedes-Benz 500E has been treated to an absolutely over the top build including 465hp RennTech engine and 6-speed manual transmission, and is available from Hatch and Sons in Massachusetts. The car has been for sale for quite some time, and last we heard, the car was offered at just shy of $60,000. The story of the 500E has been recounted many times, but in essence, the car was the result of a collaboration between Mercedes and Porsche in which the engine of the 500SL was shoehorned into the 300E chassis, thus necessitating the aggressive flared fenders. This is another excerpt from the paper, talking about the experiential aspects of cars discussed last week. In particular, it covers the visual aspects of cars.
Since human beings get the majority of their sensory input through sight, the importance of a car’s appearance is self-evident. Enthusiasts value a wide variety of characteristics, which makes it extremely difficult to systematically describe or analyze the aspects of various cars that make them attractive. (more…)
